Make money on the internet and Piri Piri chicken – what is the connection?

Well, let me first start with this interesting gem of information! Did you know that the person who invented the delicious Portuguese chicken dish, Piri Piri chicken owns a restaurant in Guia on the Algarve?

The elderly gentleman’s name is Mr Ramires and his restaurant is simply called Ramires.  Ramires Restaurant is plain, nothing fancy or over the top.  The menu is short and to the point.  No messing around.  People go to Ramires to taste the real thing – proper Portuguese cooking, the way it should taste.  AND obviously their speciality is Piri Piri chicken!

Owen, Dirk, Llew and I went to this piri piri chicken restaurant dinner one night.  We had a delicious meal … Piri Piri Chicken of course!

We were on vacation during the low season so the restaurant wasn’t that full.  Had a glass of good local Portuguese wine with our tasty meal.  We highly recommend Ramires piri piri restaurant so next time you’re on vacation in the Algarve in Portugal drive west from Albufeira to the small village of Guia where you’ll find Ramires.  It’s near the old church.  Anybody in the village will be able to direct you to this great Piri Piri chicken restaurant.

Lifestyle change working from home

Brenda Cooper’s running lessons and online marketing

Yes, you read right!

I’m now getting into a routine and I’m enjoying running…

OK, there is the odd moan (inside my head you understand) but I’m fine after I’ve put my kit on and stepped out of the door.  It’s the yucky weather that is so depressing.

I’ve found that my breathing lets me down.  When I first start out I huff and I puff (but I don’t quite blow the house down) and I struggle a bit.  But as I get into my stride (that sounds quite good, doesn’t it?) my breathing becomes more relaxed and my running is better and I can run for longer distances without feeling like I need to stop.

Owen is really good with me.  He’s an experienced runner and has done marathons etc.  He’s also an experienced trainer, he used to be a PTI (Physical Training Instructor) in his early days in the Police before he got involved with developing and rolling out mapping software.

It’s a learning curve for me but I have learnt a few valuable lessons on my running journey:

The importance of having an experienced mentor and trainer

• I have been taught properly from the beginning, so I have not wasted time or injured myself by having the wrong trainer or by trying to teach myself.

• Owen is experienced and very patient.  (Owen has been an excellent trainer and patient mentor on my running journey.)

It’s the same when you start out on the internet!

You must have an experienced mentor and trainer to show you how to successfully market on the internet from the beginning!

• A dark cloud hanging over many enthusiasts is the high cost of astronomy. This means that most amateur astronomers have to fund these trips themselves. The huge expense of specialist equipment and travel means that very few amateur astronomers experience many live eclipses.

And the costs for a cosmic jaunt certainly do mount up:

• Air tickets (2 air tickets if your partner is going with and why not?)
• The costs of flying specialist telescopic equipment by secure courier.
• Visas and the costs associated.
• Health vaccinations
• Hotel accommodation
• Car rentals
• Costs associated with conferences and meetings
• Extra funds for sightseeing excursions and entertaining

Not all eclipse fans find the experience is worth the shock when return to their credit card bill. However, many open-minded astonomers have found a solution to their funding dilemma.  They have set up second income streams to fund their expensive hobby.  The most popular way of legally generating funds is by learning to market specialist astronomy equipment on the internet.  This appears to be the preferred solution as they can work from home and it doesn’t cost them alot to set up.

So there is much to take into account before going off to chase the latest eclipse. Academic or amateur astronomers alike need to pay attention to the planning.

So, plan, plan, plan eclipse chasers to improve your chances of having an enjoyable trip and not a cosmic nightmare.

One thing I haven’t told you about is the art exhibition I went to at St. Hilda’s college in Oxford.

My brother is a member of an amateur art group and he was exhibiting his paintings.  I’m very proud of him and what’s he’s achieved.  It was a good event and a lovely venue with plenty of light.  Very talented artists and friendly people with yummy nibbles and wine made for a pleasant evening all round.

Those of you who know me will know I’m a bit of a “frustrated artist”.  I’ve never had much time to paint or develop my skills in the past but that has now changed.

It’s a simple answer really…!  Both of us now have got time to spend on ourselves and our hobbies since we started our YourNetBiz home business.  It’s fun and so interesting as well.  Definately makes a pleasant change in our lives.

We’ve had a wonderful break and celebrated the festive season with our extended family.  There were 10 of us staying here for the Christmas holiday, the house was noisy with lots of laughter so I think everybody enjoyed themselves.  Thank goodness for dishwashers I say!

We’re almost there with the front bedroom., it’s looking real nice now!

The secondary glazing was installed on Tuesday and we’re now painting and finishing off the room for Monday when the new carpets will be laid.

We’ve painted the room a lovely shade of yellow, called Moongold, with white skirting boards etc.  It’s looks so fresh and clean!   Here’s a colour sample to look at, what do you think?

One hobby is DIY and he’s renovated many houses over the years.  We live in an old Victorian house which needs alot of work done on it.  (Owen is a fully trained electrician and plumber and had his own business before we started our internet home business.)   It’s so handy having a husband who loves DIY and is also a tame electrician and plumber!

Anyway, this old house has those lovely big rooms with high ceilings which are so typical of old Victorian homes.  We bought it many years ago because we needed the extra space having 4 children.  Owen’s had various contractors in to do work he didn’t want to do and at the moment Owen is renovating the large front bedroom.  He’ll next move onto the en-suite bathroom.  Now that he doesn’t run his electrical business he’s got more time to work on our home when he feels like it, here’s a pic I took yesterday when he was painting the ceiling!

Renovating an old house does take alot of time and money but fortunately we’re in a position to be able to renovate our home.

We really are so fortunate …

HOME

We had a lovely evening last night, we went to the Wombourne & District Choral Society Christmas concert. Wombourne Choral Society is a strong, amateur choir headed by excellent musical director Ian Clarke.  They put on numerous choral concerts during the year which we try to go attend.

Last night they performed George Frideric Handel’s Israel in Egypt, which is a difficult piece but they “handled” (!) it magnificently!  The guest soloists, Mezzo Suprano Belinda Williams and Tenor Edward Lee, were both outstanding.

The choir and soloists also did a stirring rendition of the Hallelujah Chorus as well as a few Christmas carols, which we sang along with.

I reckon Owen is an excellent Bass singer, so I’ve suggested he join the choir.  I don’t think he’s taken me seriously…

The whole evening was such a treat!  There are so many really talented people around and fortunately, we can afford to go to whatever concerts and events we want.  We’re so ‘lucky’.

That reminds me of a good phrase I read:  the great Gary Player, legendary South African golfer, apparently said at an interview when asked if he’d been lucky in his golfing career: “It’s funny, the more I practice the luckier I get!”

I don’t know if I got that right?  but the message is the same, put in the work with the right kind of training and you’ll succeed.
